Hans
Staartjes biographical details and artistic statement, Jan. 1999
Hans
Staartjes is a forty one year old artist (of Dutch nationality) who has
been living and
working
as a professional photographer and photographic artist in Houston, Texas
since 1982.
He
earned his Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Houston in 1996,
with
a concentration
on sculpture. The objects he created during this time were small
and
ephemeral,
and made of latex and resin. For his current work, the sculptures exist
only for
the
camera, and in some instances for subsequent digital manipulation. The
resulting
photographic
abstractions perhaps suggest a “fragility of the flesh”.
